ADVOCATE FOR OUR CHILDREN

• Join the Parent Teacher Association
• Attend a School Board Meeting
• Meet your children’s teachers
• Help your child learn something he is interested in
• Report students not in school
• Understand that you are your child’s first teacher
• Promote livable wages
• Vote 
• Attend school functions with your children
• Get a library card for you and your children

CELEBRATE LEARNING

• Congratulate children for academic achievement
• Make getting good grades a family celebration
• Have newspapers and magazines in your home
• Notice when an educator gets it right. Congratulate them and share with others
• Encourage your church or civic group to adopt a school

SHARE THE GIFT OF EDUCATION

• Donate school supplies and books
• Start a children’s book swap group
• Assist children with homework and school projects
• Help children learn a new word each day
• Start a neighborhood reading group
• Support one Take Stock in Children child
• Provide intergenerational and trans-generational learning
• Encourage older children to promote reading and learning to younger children
• Read to your children for at least 15 minutes every day
• Encourage young people to think about future job training needed
• Provide job shadowing
• Advocate for vocational programs
• Play word and math games with children (Dominos, Scrabble, etc.)

VOLUNTEER 

• Become a classroom volunteer or after-school tutor
• Become a mentor
• Become a tutor in an adult literacy program
• Provide job shadowing and/or internship opportunities
• Volunteer to work on a text book or SZAC committee
