A new community job retention initiative championed by Mort O'Sullivan designed to remove barriers for individuals living in poverty seeking employment and working towards self-sufficiency.  This initiative is based on the Cincinnati Works model.

Employee Survey--January/February 2010

  • Job Seeker survey in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties
  • Identify pockets of 18-64 year olds by zipcode under 100% of poverty line and number by zipcode 100%-200% of poveerty line
  • Identify the barriers that prevent those in poverty from becoming self-sufficient
  • Identify refferral sources and contact information for job seekers such as community centers, non-profit agencies, and governmental units.

Employer Survey--Fall 2009

  • Phone Survey of Employers in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties with 50+ employees
  • Employers had entry level, unskilled jobs paying $8-$11 per hour
  • Questions asked included number/type of open jobs for entry level/unskilled, medical benefits, expectations of employer, access to public transportation, titles/functions of entry level jobs, qualifications, and typical source of employees
